Your Questions About Grandfather Clocks
Ken asks…

its a stupid question that my math teacher wants me to answer for a project…

The terms "grandfather", "grandmother", and "granddaughter" have all been applied to longcase clocks. Although there is no specifically defined difference among these terms, the general perception seems to be that a clock smaller than 1.5 m (5 ft) is a granddaughter; over 1.5 m (5 ft) is a grandmother; and over 1.8 m (6 ft) is a grandfather. Case length is not related to pendulum length, however. A grandfather clock contains a pendulum of length 0.99336 m., with a weight of 1.4kg. It has an oscillation period of 2 seconds.

Quality Grandfather clocks are very sensitive. My sister had one that needed service twice a year just because of road traffic in front of her house.

Check the bottom of the pendulum. If there is a nut there, you can turn it slightly to slow down or speed up the clock (turning it one way slows it down, turning it the other way speeds it up). Turn it about a quarter of a turn each time and wait a few hours to see if the clock sped up or slowed down. Then adjust as necessary. Check the picture in the link. The red arrow points to the nut at the bottom of the pendulum.
